Dream Big But Keep It Realistic

How To Create Your Own Business Plan - Dream Big

Okay so what do I mean by this little title : Dream Big But Keep It Realistic.

It is important to dream because this is what fill our soul, this is what keep us alive. If we had no dreams, wouldn’t be boring? We work so hard to achieve these dreams that without any dreams we don’t have anything to work so hard for. So never ever stop dreaming BUT try to keep it as realistic as possible.

I mean, if you’re dreaming to go on the moon but you don’t feel like doing all the stuff needed, forget it, it will never work.

Your mind must be into it so that your dreams are achievable. And for your mind to be into it, it must be realistic, you must be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Now, where do I want to go with all this.

In fact, you need to see your dreams and believe in them. And to achieve these dreams, you will need GOALS. This is where I want to go. The goals you will determine will become your steps in your business plan and every time one is achieved you can check it and continue for the next one.

Goals will help you discipline yourself and work hard. Without goals, you can try to build something but if you don’t set up your brain correctly you will probably become like the majority of people and procrastinate and never do anything. This is why so many people prefer to work 9 to 5 instead of building their own business… Anyway that’s not the subject here!

You will need four types of goal :

Daily goals : This is mostly to plan your day. Knowing what you will do in the next day is the first step in knowing what you will do for the next month, and the next 6 months, etc.

Short term goals : These will be set up for one month to 6 months. This way you know what it should be half a year from now.

Mid term goals : They are set up for 6 months to two years. It gives you a really good idea of where your business will be in two years.

Long term goals : The long term ones are for two years and +. These are more the objectives that you want to reach in 5 years for example, where you see yourself and your business. To reach these goals, you will have to reach the other goals set up earlier.

To set up these goals, you need to check how your business is growing depending on what you plan to do each day. If, for example, you’re building a website and you decide that you will write one blog per week and in three months you consider of having 30 articles on your website, I think you did not compute right. Don’t forget that there are a lot of steps in building a business and you must think of everything.

By setting up your goals like this, you will be more able to see your dreams and believe in them because you will do what is necessary to achieve them. You will see the path that lead to them so believing will be easy.

Write Everything Down

How To Create Your Own Business Plan - Write Down

Now that you know how to set up your GOALS to reach your DREAMS, you will have to concretise it and write everything down on paper (or computer). What is important is that you learn them and by writing them down, it is easier to learn and understand what you prepare to do. Also, it is easier to follow than to keep everything in your head. If you don’t write your goals down, believe me you will forget some of them and you won’t be able to keep a good discipline.

So take a sheet, a pen and start to write.

Make sure it is easy to read and that when you will come back, you will still understand what you’ve written. If you write them on the computer, I suggest you print them. Why having them on paper? Because once you’re done, post them somewhere you can see them easily, like your work place, your office or even your bedroom. You can post them in all of these three places. The more you see them, the more you will be into doing them.

These goals you set up will become your business plan. This is where you are now, and it shows you where you want to go in the future.

Remember to put them somewhere you can see easily.

Learn Your Plan And Apply It Correctly

How To Create Your Own Business Plan - Learn Your Plan

Now that you have your dreams and that you fixed your goals for the next 5 years, you need to correctly understand what you’ve planned and apply it. If you don’t, why bothering preparing a plan…

Seeing your goals daily will permit you to follow your plan easily and believe in every step you will take every single day. You will have the feeling of achieving something great and that will motivate you to continue and not give up.

Thought your journey you will definitely have difficulties, it won’t be easy. Someday you won’t be motivated and you’ll feel like an obligation to work on your business because maybe you won’t have any results yet, it is totally possible. But guess what, it is part of the game and you must accept it.

You will probably have people around you who tell you it is not worth it and that you are wasting money and time for nothing but always remember why you started. If you did, there were reasons and you must continue for these and for you.

Every day is a new step so take it easy and don’t put pressure on you. It is possible that during your journey there will be things that you won’t do on time or you had not correctly planned the time for a specific activity so you’ll have to put it on another day. It’s fine. Adjust your plan and it will be okay.

Never force anything, remember that you do it for you, for your future. The most important thing is that you work a minimum to achieve your goals. If you follow your plan as much as possible it will only be better.

Stick To Your Plan

How To Create Your Own Business Plan - Stick To Your Plan

Very important point. You need to stick to your plan! If you don’t, you will definitely not achieve the goals you’ve planned and you won’t see results very soon. So, as much as possible you must follow your plan. Following your plan will only allow you to properly see your progress and how far you’re going.

Like I already said, it is possible that it doesn’t go exactly how you’ve planned it, then you just have to adjust your goals and continue to follow the new plan. It will be fine.

The one important thing to remember is your focus. If you don’t keep the focus on your plan and try anything else, it won’t go as fast as you think it can go and maybe you’ll give even before you could have seen any results because you’ll be exhausted. Accept that it takes some time to succeed and follow the rules (your plan) and I promise, you’ll work it out.

See The Results

Now that you’ve gone through a couple days/months/years of work you can see what you have done. You can probably see some results too, I mean the results are mostly your goals so if you’ve followed your plan correctly you probably reached out your goals.

Never stop updating your planning so that you continuously work on your business and so that it can always grow, it is the key to success, never stop even when you think you’re done.

It is a big spiral that you constantly follow by growing up every day and reaching your goals.

My Last Word

How To Create Your Own Business Plan - Make a Plan

Making up a plan is really really REALLY important to build a profitable business. Without a plan, you will try to make everything work instead of focusing only on one thing. Start to work on a specific subject and once it starts to show results, maybe you can start looking elsewhere, but make sure your plan A is correctly working, you have to believe in it.

It is not always easy to make a proper plan and follow it correctly, I’m the first one to say it, but you have to work this thing out if you want to have any success in your entrepreneur journey.

If I can give you a tip, print down a calendar of the actual month and start to plan your first month. Keep it simple and only plan one month, you’ll see how it is going and then you’ll be able to adjust yourself and maybe plan 2, 3 or more months. But learning how you work is really important, it will permit you to correctly plan your goals and get some success maybe soon!

  1. If you want to get anywhere in life you must have a plan. If you do not have a plan you will jump from one thing to the other very easily and never have focus.

Without focus you will not complete anything or ever reach your goals. Having well defined goals, writing them down so you can see them, implementing, and sticking to you plan is a recipe for success.

Some may not realize how vital goal setting is but without goals to achieve you go through life just going with the flow. Thanks for sharing such an insightful article.

    1. Hi Nate,

You are totally right, without plan there is no focus and no success. I think most people do not realize the importance of goals until they jump in the entreprenarial world. With so many opportunities, you must focus on specific things to start somewhere.

      Thank you for sharing!

  2. Hi,

Great article, I actually apply a lot of what you have mentioned in this article with a slight difference, I use Immediate goals (6 months) short term (1 year) mid term (3 years) long term (5 years) – with time frame only the real difference.

What helps me a lot, particularly in the early days is to celebrate all the little win. No matter how little. Be it ranking improvements, increases in traffic, what ever it may be I celebrate it. It is a signal I am doing things right and are moving in a positive direction.

    1. Hi Derek,

It’s interesting to see that the frames can be different from a person to another, it really depends on the person and its goals. Celebrating all the little wins is really an awesome idea to keep the motivation and continue working hard.

      Thank you for sharing!

  3. Hi, this is a great article with some helpful tips. I often forget to write down some ideas but I have been trying to at least text them to myself so I won’t forget. I usually get my ideas when I’m busy doing something else but I think I should invest in at least a small notepad to keep around. Writing ideas down does help to not forget them. If only I could remember to write them down haha. Anyway, thanks for the tips!

    1. Hi Sandy,

For sure it’s important not forgetting to write them down to not forget them, ahah! I’m sure you’ll find a way to handle this.

      Thank you for sharing 🙂

  4. Wow, this is a long list of creating a good business plan. I appreciate how you have broken down the list and steps one by one.

This is exactly what a beginner, who is confused really, needs. The cool part is that you have also added a button where the details of starting a business plan can be hammered out.
Making a concrete plan is the foundation of all successful businesses.

Thanks for sharing your useful article.
    All the best.

    1. Hi Phomrong,

Definitely, the plan is the foundation of all successful business, it is well said. Without a plan, it’s hard to grow and know where we are going. For beginners, but also for everyone advanced in the entrepreneur world, plans are very important.

      Thank you for sharing.

  5. Thank you so much for a fantastic article. I learned a lot. Tons of information for those who read it, apply it and do it!
Awesome! I’ve started writing my daily plans. I haven’t planned monthly or yearly yet.
I’ve been keeping notes and such for a long time. I have a TBI brain injury and my notes help me a lot when I have to make a list of things that I need to do!
Taking a day at a time is much easier for me to handle anything more than that is confusing to my brain.
I do like how you gave us so much information!
    Thank you,
    Donna Rayne

    1. Hi Donna,

Happy you loved it and learned stuff. Writing things down is probably the best way to not forget and to correctly do what you have to do. Taking a day at a time can be much easier you are right and it helps focus on one thing instead of focusing on various things.

      Thanks for sharing 🙂

  6. Great article, I totally agree with your points, write down your goal and check every day, you need to move forward a little bit than the previous day, then you will finally get closer your goal.
    Let’s keep going, Go! Go!
