Finding the right balance in life is not always easy. As we get older, more responsibilities come in and sometimes it can become hard to deal with them. We work full-time, children are doing activities almost every evening of the week, you must check with them their homework, you have to get up early to get ready to go to work and prepare the children for school, etc.
24h becomes short for one day and you wouldn’t say no to have a couple more. More hours for what? Have more time with the kids? For you? For your partner? To be honest, even with more hours in your day, it wouldn’t be different. In fact, it can be different even in keeping 24h. It is possible by having good habits and planning your day. Who really does that? Not many people but they should.
In this article I want to share with you some daily habits I developed in the past months/year so that I can feel more comfortable with my life. When I wake up in the morning, I’m happy for the day that’s coming. And when I go to bed, I’m can’t wait for tomorrow. You must create a life that makes you happy, and if you’re not happy right now, it’s maybe only because you don’t have the right habits. I want to share with you 7 daily habits to improve your life.

Just before we start…
Being active is primordial for a happy and healthy life. In our actual society where technologies and social media are in constant evolution and very present, we are wasting a lot of our time on our cellphones, TVs and computers wishing we had more time in a day to do more.
What we are not aware of is that we are on average 8 hours in front of a screen per day (this excludes the time in front of a computer or mobile while at your job) which represents 33% of our day (this comes from Radio-Canada.ca)! This is alarming! 8 hours when we could do so many things (such as sports) but instead, we prefer wasting our time on social media or playing games, etc.
I wanted to mention this at the beginning of the article because it is a cause of the consequence of us wasting our time. I mean, if we were not wasting so much time, we would probably be a lot happier and live a better life because we would do things probably more important than surfing the social medias enjoying others’ lives.
Now, the main subject of this first daily habit: sports!
Yes, sports or activities or anything that keep your body active is important. To live healthily and have a long life, being active is primordial.
You don’t need to exercise every single day of the week, 1-2 hours per day to be active. It can be as simple as 30 minutes per day or 1 hour every 2 days or whatever. As long as you have something planned to be active during your week.
I don’t need any scientific statistics to prove to you that exercise is good, everyone knows it, it’s just that the human being is lazy and doesn’t want to get up from its chair…
Working in an office
If your daily job is in an office, I suggest you take breaks often. When I say breaks I don’t mean picking up your phone, I mean get up and walk, look far away, take a deep breath. Don’t stay sit, in the long term it can be very rough on your body to always stay sit. Okay, I won’t go through every type of jobs but I think you get me. Take some break for YOU and your body.
What exercise will bring you?
Doing exercise regularly is good for your moral. How did you feel the last time you exercise? I bet you felt great even if you probably felt also bad (because you worked hard and it’s normal to feel broken after good exercises).
Exercise also evacuates the hormone of endorphin which is a hormone of ”pleasure”. You feel relaxed and good after doing some exercises.
Exercising on a daily or weekly basis is good for your body in general. Your blood circulation becomes better, your cardio is good so you’re not out of breath when you reach the top of the stairs, etc. Don’t underestimate exercises and how good it can be for you and your body.
Find something that you love to do or find some friends who would like to exercise with you, sometimes not being alone can help you to keep your motivation.
Ideas of activities to keep you active
I’ll share with you some type of exercises that maybe you could like or at least try to see if you can like it or not, they are the simplest you can find to do :
The possibilities are huge so if you’re not doing exercises it’s because you are making excuses. Stop making excuses and start to work on yourself! Life is too short to waste so much time, take this time and make something out of it!
Managing your time is probably one of the most important things to do so that you’re able to do many other things in your day. One of the best ways to start managing your schedule is to start day by day. I mean start by preparing your next day, don’t go further. And when you get used to it and it works well, you should start to prepare things weekly and then monthly just to give you a better idea of what is waiting for you. Get ready every day
Many self-development coaches will tell you to plan your day so that you know what you gotta do so that there is no time wasted and so that you become more productive. I must admit it is not always easy to plan your next day but by doing it daily now, I can assure you that I’m a lot more productive than I was before.
Planning day by day will help you be organized and seeing further will help you to plan your actual day by day. Knowing what is coming is important to prepare ourselves daily. You can start to go weekly and then monthly when you feel you can handle it. It’s not complicated you just have to do it.
Being organized will truly help you do things that maybe you thought you would never have time for. You’ll see how often we are on our phones, TVs and computers losing our time and how you could use this time for something useful actually.
This is something that is indeed very hard to do! But like they say ”the future belongs to people who get up early”. Maybe you haven’t heard of this before but I did and many times my parents or some of my teachers were telling me this. Not because I was waking up late but just because they thought important to tell me.
Talking for myself, I’ve been waking up early for a couple of weeks now (5 am) and I must admit that I have accomplished a lot more than if I didn’t. Yes, I’ve always been a morning person but even night people can do it and be productive.
In fact, 5 am is a peaceful time. The sun comes up, everyone is asleep, you can work on your thing and not bother anyone or on the other side, nobody will bother you. That’s the main point to be productive, you’re on your own with nobody is there to distract you.
When arrives noon, you’ve accomplished a lot and your day is just getting started, that’s what I appreciate of waking up early. Also, when I go to bed I have the satisfaction I didn’t lose my time and that I made something of this beautiful day. This is truly peaceful and I can definitely say that my life is better since I started waking up early.
If you don’t think you can wake up so early, I’m telling you ”yes you can”. It is a hard habit to do but if you are disciplined and go to bed early, there is no reason you can’t wake up early, your sleep cycle will only change. Instead of going to bed at 11 pm and wake up at 7 am, you go to bed at 9 pm and wake up at 5 am, you still have 8 hours of sleep!
Try it and come back telling me how it is going! 🙂
Oh, that’s a tough one… well for me it is ahah. I’ll be honest, I love junk food and eating in restaurants because that means I don’t need to cook. But that’s a terrible habit and I’m working to change this!
One thing I do to help me is to plan my meals for the week to come. And then when I go to the groceries it is less expensive because I know what I need to buy, I don’t just buy stuff because it looks good and tasty.
Eating healthy definitely have an impact on the quality of your life. Not only it will keep your body in shape, but you will also definitely feel better and healthier. I know it can be very hard to take the time to cook and eat well (believe me, I can tell!) but what it will bring you is so good, you will be thankful for that.
So take the time while planning your day (habit #2) to plan your weekly meals. I can add that when you plan your meals for a period, the waste of time looking for something to eat day by day is considerably reduce (and I can tell for that too!) because you already know it! You thought about it once already so you don’t need to think about it again. Give it a try, you’ll love it!
Learning is so important! If you’re done with school and now you’re working full-time, I have one thing to tell you and it’s ”keep learning!”. We have to keep our brain active, it is really important because this is how we grow and become a better self.
Again, instead of being on your phone losing your time surfing on social media, educate yourself! Read, find an online course, watch webinars on a subject you like, do whatever you want that feeds your brain but do something. Don’t stay there doing anything because you think you’re exhausted from your day at work (okay maybe you are but take a quick nap of 15-30 minutes maximum and go back to do something).
There are so many things you can do, you have no reason for loosing this precious time. Learning is something that we mostly forget when we finish school and start working full-time because most of the time responsibilities come in and we think we don’t have time anymore. Go back to habit #2 and plan your day, you’ll see that there is probably 30 minutes that you can take to learn something.
Learning will bring you a lot of confidence and pride. Learn and see it by yourself.
This is one of my favourite habits because this is the reason I wake up early every morning: my side-hustle.
Finding yourself a motivation is something that will truly bring you joy because this is something that you’ll work hard on it and dedicate time. It can be absolutely anything such as a side-hustle like me, lose weight, etc. As long as it forces you to take action and set up goals.
Haven’t you ever feel like you had accomplished something when you finished a long assignment for one of your classes? I did. It doesn’t look like it but homework or assignments given at school are the goals that our teachers give us so that we can learn stuff to reach those goals. And by achieving them, you have this feeling of pride and happiness.
This specific feeling, pride, is a feeling that people are experiencing in different ways. It can be because one of their kids won a competition or because they completed all the tasks they had planned to do in the day. It can be a feeling with different meanings but experiencing this feeling when you achieve a goal that brings you closer to your dreams, that’s a completely different feeling. It is so different because you can hardly believe that your dreams are coming closer and now, you believe in dreams becoming reality. I wish you to experience this same feeling at least once in your life.
It is possible today to experience this feeling even if we think it’s only the lucky persons who can feel it. That’s not true. Everyone can experience it, you just have to put your mind to it and start.
So find yourself a motivation that will help you get up every morning and most of all, that will make you happy to wake up every morning. Don’t wait for things to happen, make them happen.
